There’s no place like home
November 2020
If you’re likely to be spending a lot of time at home over the coming months, make the most of it. We’ve come up with all kinds of ideas that’ll keep you happy and healthy while you’re cuddled up indoors. Going out? Oh, you’ll be much too busy…

Indulge mindfully
Pouring an after-dark glass of wine? Opt for reds made with thick skinned grapes like merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah, and petite sirah, which are higher in antioxidant resveratrol. For lower sugar, look for lower alcohol content, and choose sustainably grown and organic wines to avoid added chemicals. And if you’re adding a little chocolate to your moment of indulgence, look for bars containing 70% cocoa or higher – they’re delicious, but much lower in sugar.

Keep it cosy
When you’ve been out for your daily dose of exercise, there’s nothing quite like coming home, putting the kettle on and getting all wrapped up for an evening. We’ve got no end of ways to keep chilly toes toasty from our supersoft suede mules to beautiful sheepskin booties. We often say our cute and cosy bed socks make a great little gift; and there’s no harm in treating yourself to a pair or two, of course.

Mind, the mental health charity, recommends keeping your brain busy if you’re spending a lot of time indoors. Find activities that you enjoy to help stimulate your brain - if you’re struggling to concentrate on a book, listen to podcasts on Spotify or have a go at a jigsaw puzzle. We love the mind-bending designs by Colin Thompson – they’re certain to keep you on your toes!
Relax and recharge
While it’s important to keep busy and active, try to prioritise rest too. We simply can’t run on an empty tank and some days, you’ll just want to spend the day curled up on the sofa. Our advice? Enjoy it! Get comfy, put a film on and recharge your batteries. On chilly days, you might want to snuggle into a velvety velour gown, or perhaps a fabulous fleece wrap. Why not explore our gorgeous range of loungewear and treat yourself to a whole new set?

Ready, set, bake!
We all have our favourite treats and comfort food, but Vegetarian For Life has some delicious inspiration and ways to make those kitchen classics healthy and nourishing. Use up the last of the allotment beetroot with some dairy-free beetroot brownies. Get into the festive spirit a little early with some gluten-free mince pies. Perhaps try something different like a roasted cauliflower tart. The focus and attention required, particularly when you’re trying a new recipe, makes cooking one of life’s underrated mindful activities.
At-home ComfortGet crafty
Make gifts through meditative arts and crafts, which can help distract your mind from any anxieties. You can find everything you need to get started on LoveCrafts. If you find knitting a little fiddly, try crocheting with a large hook and thick yarn, have a go at macramé, or experiment with pompom making. Just choose a simple, colourful pattern, and take each day a stitch at a time.

Like a challenge?
Online games are a great way to connect with others while staying sharp! Download the Scrabble® GO app to challenge friends and family to a round of scrabble. It’s twice as fun – and half as challenging – as a video call. Getting lost in a word game in particular can be really beneficial for the mind and help with stress relief. Not to mention the near-guaranteed hit of the ‘happy hormone’ dopamine when you get a high scoring word.
Bend and stretch
Exercise is great for both physical and mental wellbeing. Even if you don’t fancy a cold weather walk, you can still stay active in the comfort of your home. The government’s Better Health campaign is encouraging everyone to keep moving, and they have lots of helpful hints and tips if you’re not sure where to start. Try a gentle yoga practice in your conservatory or living room. Online yoga channel Yoga with Adriene has hundreds of free, easy to follow videos that you can take at your own pace, and they’re brilliant for beginners.
