The government’s just announced that, from July 4th, England’s hospitality industry will be coming steadily back to life. The rest of the UK won’t be far behind, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to plan your great escape!

Usually at this time of year, we’d all be packing our suitcases and stocking up on suncream ready for exotic holidays abroad – often to places we’ve visited and loved time and time again. And while we’ll have to wait a little longer to fly across the world, the loosened restrictions mean that holidays within Britain are very much on the cards.

There are so many wonderful places to visit in the UK. These isles are blessed with rolling hills, ancient woodlands, sandy beaches and shimmering lakes, so there’s truly something for everyone, no matter how you like to spend your holidays. We thought you might need a little inspiration while you plan your British getaway, so we’ve pulled together a selection of staycation ideas – complete with what to pack.

Escape to the countryside

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to country house hotels. These stately homes are peppered all over the UK, and many of them will be right on your doorstep – ideal if you’re still feeling a little nervous about travelling. They’re characterised by beautiful bedrooms, stunning restaurants and meticulously manicured grounds, which makes them perfect for a few luxurious days away.

What to pack:

Finally – an excuse to pull on your favourite dress! Choose elegant printed dresses or two-piece dresses for afternoon tea and evenings in the restaurant, and go for smart, comfortable separates for wandering the grounds during the day. Oh, and be sure to pack a swimming costume and a pair of flip-flops if your chosen hotel has a spa.

Relax on the beach

From expansive, sandy beaches to secret, pebbly coves, there are so many ways to be by the seaside in Britain. Grab fish and chips and wander along the piers in Brighton, Blackpool, or Llandudno, or kick off your shoes and feel the sand between your toes in Camber, Whitby, and Holkham. And of course, we can’t forget the wild and wonderful coastlines of Devon and Cornwall, immortalised in the BBC’s Poldark.

What to pack:

Sun, sand and sea can only mean one thing: swimwear! Browse our carefully designed, perfect-fit tankinis and swimming costumes, then add a cover-up kaftan or cotton voile shirt for sun-kissed style.

Step back in time

Britain’s historic towns and cities make for wonderful weekend breaks; you could even spend a couple of days in town as a stopover, then head into the country or to the coast for the rest of your week. There are so many to choose from, and you needn’t go far: York, Edinburgh, Bath, or Canterbury are great places to start. Explore their cathedrals or castles, traipse along cobbled streets, and take a tour to learn all about their colourful history – then finish each day in a cosy pub.

What to pack:

Opt for comfortable, day to night styles. That way, you won’t feel the need to head home and change if you stumble across a beautiful bar or restaurant. Try easy-to-wear tops and lightweight trousers, or relaxed jersey dresses.
