In that time we’ve seen our exquisite nightwear modelled by Joanna Lumley; watched HRH Princess Anne open one of our factories; hosted the Prime Minister and added stylish womenswear and knitwear to our growing collections. But we’ve never lost sight of who we are: a family-run company with a passion for beautifully made clothes, and a dedication to the people who make them.
While we can’t celebrate this extra special birthday quite how we’d like, we’re still so proud to share it with you. After all, while we make the clothes, you make us.
What makes us special?
It takes something rather exceptional to make it 60 years, and our timeless designs, exceptional cut and fit, and luxurious quality fabrics and yarns have ensured David Nieper never goes out of style. We’ve also spent the last six decades really getting to know what you love to wear and how you like it to fit, resulting in gorgeously crafted collections that truly flatter your figure. No one does clothing for style-conscious women over 50 quite like us.
We’ve always been proud to be a British manufacturer and how we make our clothing also makes a big difference. When many other fashion companies took their manufacturing overseas, or shut down completely, David Nieper remained steadfast. We still design and make our clothes here in Derbyshire using authentic dressmaking techniques, honed over decades, and have even begun to print and dye our own fabrics. That’s how we craft such exceptional quality clothing; as the saying goes, if you want something doing right, you ought to do it yourself.
Over the coming years, our focus is on sustainability. Not just in how we make our clothes but in how we secure a stable future for the UK fashion industry.
We’re always excited to work with young talent – whether it’s our local primary schools, or scholarships with our university partners, we offer children and young people opportunities at every level.
One of our most ambitious and rewarding projects has been sponsoring our local secondary school. The David Nieper Academy is one of Britain’s most ambitious and innovative education ventures and aims to give pupils a winning advantage through a marriage of vocational and academic learning supported by local employer partnerships.
We want the British fashion industry to grow and thrive – right here at home. That’s why we created our very own sewing academy in our Derbyshire sewing rooms, where our most experienced dressmakers are passing on decades of knowledge and authentic techniques to a new generation to ensure they live on in how we make our clothes.

Working with ethical suppliers, reducing waste, water usage and our carbon footprint are all investments in a brighter future for the world we live in. We recently launched our own fabric printing and dyeing factory, right here in our home town, with the aim of further reducing our impact on the environment. We already know that manufacturing our garments in the UK results in 47% less emissions – by printing our own ethically sourced fabrics we are reducing our carbon footprint even further.
Last year, we were delighted to win the Queen’s Award for Sustainability, and we know there’s even more we can do to minimise our impact on the environment. Ultimately, we’ll never lose sight of creating quality clothing as sustainably as possible, while also welcoming lush new prints, textures, styles and fabrics we just know you’ll love.
It’s all thanks to you
And of course, none of this would have been possible without you – our customers. Over the years, you’ve eagerly awaited each collection and chosen new favourites for your wardrobe. You’ve written us the most beautiful letters and reviews. You’ve passed catalogues along to friends and family, knowing they’ll love this or that.
And over the past year, when so many companies and retailers have struggled, you’ve been right there by our side. It’s been 60 years of David Nieper, and 60 years of the finest customers we could wish for. Thank you.
